Back on our home mooring

We left Totnes very early on a drizzly Wednesday morning, motored out of the river and set sail eastwards. How is it that the wind manages to be against us both ways? We fetched up at Lyme Regis but at low tide could not get inside the harbour and with easterlies there was swell outside, so we motored on to West Bay, the harbour for Bridport. It used to be a very long narrow entrance used only by local boats. However, it was updated a couple of years ago, but is still little visited. It served us well. This was the first time we have broken the passage across Lyme Bay, made possible by our variable draft.

So this morning Thursday we just had to make it down Chesil Beach and the west side of Portland Bill in time to round the point at the right moment in the tide. Then we picked our way around the Shambles Bank and across Weymouth Bay. At one stage we were making 8 knots, our first really fast passage.

We came into Poole, straight up to Wareham and are now back on our home mooring. So that’s it until Kane, Lucas, Mollie & Maisie come aboard the week after next.

love to all

PS While we were away, Santana was sold at last.

Glad you had a good sail and trip, despite some contrary winds. Please remember us to the grand children, & give them our love. Hope the weather will kind & the winds fair & favourable. Have a great time.

We are busy packing the finca up, as we have visitors following on. We come home on Wed. 27th. Antonia moves to Windsor Aug. 2nd.so I will be much in demand whilst they repaint their house in Aldershot magnolia, army regs. Louise had an excellent school report.
